Chief Thomas “Tommy” Williams is a longtime law enforcement professional, United States Navy veteran, and lifelong member of the Slidell community. Born in New Orleans and raised in Slidell, Chief Williams graduated from Pearl River High School before beginning a career of public service that has spanned several decades.

 

   In 1987, Chief Williams joined the United States Navy, where he served as a Nuclear Weapons Technician. He completed two enlistments before being honorably discharged and transitioning into law enforcement. Following his military service, he completed police academy training in both Florida and Georgia.

 

   Chief Williams began his law enforcement career with the Roswell Police Department in Georgia, where he served for 14 years. During his time with the department, he served in several roles and spent seven years as a shift Sergeant, gaining extensive experience in supervision, patrol operations, training, and leadership.

 

   In 2007, Chief Williams returned home to Slidell and joined the Slidell Police Department. During his service with SPD, he has received two lifesaving awards along with additional recognition for outstanding service. As a POST-certified instructor, he has also played an important role in training hundreds of law enforcement officers from Slidell and agencies throughout the region.

 

   Public service and law enforcement have deep roots in the Williams family. His father, Wyatt Williams, served with the Slidell Police Department for 25 years before later serving two terms as Slidell City Marshal.

 

   With more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and thousands of hours of professional and specialized training, Chief Williams has dedicated much of his adult life to serving his country and community.

 

   In 2026, Chief Williams took office as Chief of Police for the City of Slidell. His focus as Chief is strengthening the relationship between the police department and the community, supporting the men and women of SPD, investing in training and modern policing practices, and continuing to build strong partnerships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

 

   Chief Williams often says, “Crime knows no boundaries, and neither does the Slidell Police Department.” That philosophy reflects his commitment to collaboration, public service, and ensuring the Slidell Police Department is there whenever and wherever it is needed.
